Embarkation Ladder

The embarkation ladder is a common equipment on ships, used for passengers or crew to board lifeboats or other vessels in emergency situations.

This ladder is designed to be sturdy and durable, capable of supporting the weight of individuals climbing up and down. It plays a critical role in rescue operations, ensuring that personnel can evacuate quickly and safely from the ship.

The embarkation ladder is also commonly used for boarding and disembarking operations of vessels at port terminals.

Features

The ladder complies with Transport Canada regulations, therefore:

  • Made of hardwood steps, free of knots or irregularities, planed, and without sharp edges or splinters.

  • Equipped with a non slip surface.

  • At least 25 mm thick, 480 mm long, and 115 mm wide.

  • Steps spaced evenly from one another, with intervals of no less than 300 mm and no more than 380 mm.

  • Secured in a way that keeps each step horizontal.

  • Whippings must be of equal length and rigidity. Each whipping must be at least 300 mm long.

  • The ladder’s side ropes must consist of two bare nylon ropes on each side, each with a minimum circumference of 65 mm, made in one continuous length with no joints below the top step.
